It looks easy from this angle BUT the walk up 100m high Lion Rock is quite steep. There was once a Pa (Maori Fort) at the top called Whakaari. It is not possible to climb right to the top since a rockfall made access too dangerous. Select the photo below to see it as you start up the track.
